No fixed class times. No waiting on a group. Just structured, American Heart Association®-approved training you complete on your own terms.

Self-Guided Learning in Folsom

What Is Self-Guided Learning?

Self-Guided Learning™ is a course-based learning approach that combines two components:

  1. Online cognitive learning — completed independently, at your own pace, on any compatible device
  2. A self-guided skills session — completed in person at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center

Together, these two components meet American Heart Association® requirements for BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Upon successful completion, learners receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard — accepted by hospitals, clinics, and employers nationwide.

This approach differs from traditional classroom learning and blended learning formats. There is no instructor-led skills check, no scheduled group session, and no fixed classroom time.

Who Is It For?

Self-Guided Learning™ courses serve a wide range of professionals in the Folsom area, including:

  • Nurses and CNAs at Mercy Hospital of Folsom (1650 Creekside Dr) and Vibra Hospital of Sacramento (330 Montrose Drive)
  • EMTs, paramedics, and prehospital providers
  • Medical assistants, dental professionals, and allied healthcare workers
  • Healthcare students completing clinical rotation requirements
  • Remote and rural healthcare staff with limited scheduling flexibility

If you work in healthcare and need an American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, or PALS Provider eCard, Self-Guided Learning™ courses give you a flexible path to get there.

How the Online Learning Component Works

The online portion of a Self-Guided Learning™ course uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology continuously evaluates your existing knowledge and adjusts the content path in real time.

Here’s what that means in practice:

  • Experienced providers skip content they already know
  • Newer learners receive targeted feedback and remediation where needed
  • Every learner follows a personalized learning pathway based on mastery, not time spent

The course includes interactive patient care scenarios, scenario and algorithm-based content, and immediate feedback on clinical decision-making. It runs on desktop, laptop, or tablet with mobile responsive design — so you can complete it during a break, between shifts, or at home.

The online learning activity is required before the skills session. Completing it alone does not result in an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard.

How the Skills Session Works

After completing online learning, learners visit the CPR Verification Station™ learning center at Safety Training Seminars in Folsom to complete the hands-on component.

The CPR Verification Station learning center uses simulation technology to provide real-time, objective performance feedback. The system measures:

  • Compression depth and rate
  • Chest recoil
  • Ventilation volume and timing

There is no instructor coaching or facilitation during the session. Skills are completed independently. If a learner does not meet the required standard on the first attempt, they can repeat the skills activity until they achieve a passing score.

This model eliminates variability between instructors and holds every learner to the same AHA-defined criteria. The result is a consistent, standardized skills assessment every time.
